LDPower FR2204-2300kv Race Motor – Part II

Christmas holiday is over and it was time to complete my Part II of the LDPower FR2204 2300kv motor review. Check the Part I for details, motor quality and more pictures. In part II I have done only static thrust test on my motor thrust stand. I have used three different ESC to check for sync issues and problems: the hot new KISS24A Race ESC, the great LittleBee 20A ESC as well as the XRotor 15A ESC. Test battery was 4S 16.000mAh Multistar. Used propellers are the HQ5045 and my favorite KingKong 6×4 props. Here are my test results:

KISS 24A Race Edition – HQ5×4.5 propeller – 4S 16.000mAh 10C Multistar

50% Throttle 286g thrust 3.60A current
100% Throttle 884g thrust 21.42A current

KISS 24A Race Edition – 6×4 propeller – 4S 16.000mAh 10C Multistar

50% Throttle 400g thrust 5.50A current
100% Throttle 1039g thrust 26.98A current

I haven’t experienced any sync issues and the throttle response is great, but this is due to the awesome KISS24A ESC. What impressed me is, that the temperature was always under 40° C after 1 min tests on 60% throttle. As I predicted in Part I of the review, the motor design helps for better cooling. But lets go to the results with the LittleBee 20A:

LittleBee 20A ESC – HQ5×4.5 propeller – 4S 16.000mAh 10C Multistar

50% Throttle 315g thrust 4.41A current
100% Throttle 904g thrust 21.57A current

LittleBee 20A ESC – 6×4 propeller – 4S 16.000mAh 10C Multistar

50% Throttle 440g thrust 6.61A current
100% Throttle 1159g thrust 31.26A current

I thought the KISS24A outperforms the LittleBee regarding thrust, but it seems I was wrong. I got 1159g on 6×4 prop, but there is great possibility to burn the motor using this combination on 4S. The FR2206 1900kv should be the choice for a 6×4 or 6×4.5 propeller on 4S.

XRotor 15A – HQ5×4.5 propeller – 4S 16.000mAh 10C Multistar

50% Throttle 280g thrust 3.85A current
100% Throttle 875g thrust 20.60A current

This was more an obligatory test, to be sure that the motor works fine with a standard ESC.

Conclusion: Personally I am happy with the results. The FR2204 2300kv is perfect for 5” propeller when using it on 4S battery. It puts plenty of power out and stays absolutely cool. Let me know what do you think about the 904g thrust on HQ5x4.5. Is it good?

Update: The motors are now available here.

    1. Hey Shawn, its because the battery is 16.000mAh. With 10C its about 160A and with that battery the voltage drop is minimal and so ideal for testing the motor at max throttle.
