SkyRC S60 LiPo battery charger

SkyRC is one of the reputable manufactures of RC products and accessories from Shenzhen, China. The company offers reliable power supplies and battery chargers. The SkyRC S60 balance charger is one of the entry level products at an affordable price.

I have previously tested the Turnigy Reaktor 250W battery charger, which is more advanced charger but lacks some features, that the S60 offers. If you are looking for a LiPo charger under 50$ continue reading to find witch one fits better your needs.

SkyRC S60 Key Specifications:

  • Compact size: 112mm x 106mm x 52mm
  • AC 100 – 240V input
  • 60W output power
  • LiHV support
  • Battery Resistance Meter
  • PC software control

The design and build quality of the charger are great. The plastic housing does not feel cheap and the press feel of the buttons is fine. The S60 is the very compact and easy for transportation. However you can´t power it from DC, like a car charger.

You get one XT60 charging cable (4mm banana plug) and a EU AC cable in the package (EU Version). You don´t need additional power supplies for powering it, which is definitely a big Pro.

As an entry level charger the balance port is only suitable for 2-4S LiPo batteries, which could be a problem if you are using 5-6S LiPo batteries. Then you will need to check the big brothers D100 and Q200.

On the fron there is also a port for temperature probe, which is sold separately. With it the charging/discharging process will be terminated, if the limit is reached.

You can also connect the charger to your PC, install the ChargeMaster software and monitor the processes. Note that is no version for MAC.

On the right side of the charger there is a fan to help for the cooling.

Features

The SkyRC S60 is really easy to control. The charger software is simple and pretty similar to all charger softwares. You can charge all common type of batteries including LiHV. This is something I am missing on the Turnigy Reaktor charger.

The battery voltage meter and resistance meter work fine and are easy to access through the menu. On the other side the SkyRC does not automatically recognise the exact cell number when you plug it. So when starting a charge/discharge process you need to manually select the LiPo type. At least you get a warning message if you try to charge a 3S battery on higher voltage. Another feature that I am also missing is that you can not change the charging current during the charging process.

Summary

The SkyRC S60 is good entry level charger for beginners. If you are not going to charge more than 4S LiPo batteries and can live with the above mentioned missing features, then you can go for it. You don´t need to buy additional power supplies and can charge LiHV batteries. I like the clean and compact design and think the price of the SkyRC S60 is absolutely reasonable.

I am thinking of getting the more advanced SkyRC D100 or Q200 for a test, so like the Facebook page to get all updates.
