On November the 6th, DJI has launched their new Goggles N3 specifically targeting DJI Neo first time pilots. Together with release of the Goggles, there was a new firmware update for the Neo, to make it compatible with the Goggles. However, the update brings even more cool features for the mini drone. What´s new in the V01.00.0400 update?
- Added support for DJI Goggles N3.
- Added liveview stabilization when used with DJI Goggles N3 or DJI Goggles 3.
- Added support for vertical shooting. Select the corresponding ratio in resolution settings for this mode.
- In Mobile App Control, added support for manual control in full screen and control stick mode switch in Control settings.
- Added support for audio recording via app when using the DJI RC-N3 or DJI RC-N2 remote controller Go to › Camera to enable the function.
- Supported to set the noise reduction effect for audio recording to a natural style to preserve ambient sounds.
- Optimized positioning performance and increased flight speed during tracking.
- Fixed some known issues.
The two major improvements are the support for vertical shooting and the increased flight speed during tracking.
The vertical shooting is an amazing feature for content creators, who will use the content on social media in the desired vertical mode. The video however is limited to 1080p and not 4K as it needs to be cropped. The Neo does not support rotating the camera itself unlike other DJI drones, such as the Mini 4 Pro.
The firmware update also boosts DJI´s Neo top speed during tracking. Pre-update the maximum speed the Neo was able to maintain and follow a moving subject, like a biker, was limited to around 21km/h. Such speed is OK to track you while going on a run, but not suitable for biking. After the firmware update, the flight speed of the Neo is significantly increased to around 32km/h, which seems to be now useable for tracking bikers as well.
Special thanks to Ray, known as DC Rainmaker, for his detailed testing. The full video on his YouTube Channel.
