If you are looking for motors for your 150-180mm mini quadcopter, you need to check the new EMAX RS1306 (Red Bottom Mini). There are two versions of it: 3300kv and 4000kv. I got the RS1306 4000kv for testing and review from GearBest.com. Thanks for sending it to me!
Details:
- 3300kv and 4000kv
- Stator Diameter: 13mm
- Stator Length: 6mm
- Motor Dimensions: Φ28 × 18mm
- Weight: 12.8g
Quality of the motor looks very good, just like the big brother RS2205. The mini version has the same 5mm propeller shaft, so you don’t need additional adapter. The shaft length is 12.5mm, which is fine, but maybe 13mm would be better.
The RS1306 is very smooth and there is no vertical play in the bell. The motor cables are 26AWG and 5.5mm long.
In the package you have the RS1306 motor itself, mounting screws and 3 x locknuts. The mounting holes pattern is standard M2 12x12mm.
I have tested the new EMAX mini motor only with a 4” KingKong propeller, because I don’t have a 3” now. I did one test with a 4S and one test with a 3S LiPo battery. On the pictures below you can check the results with the 3S 2200mAh Nano-Tech battery:
I could not recommend using the RS1306 motor with 4” on 4S LiPo: it gets very hot even after 4-5 seconds, so there is a big chance to damage the motor. I will provide the thrust results just for reference.
The maximum current on 4S was about 15A, so if you choose smaller propeller or goes for 3S LiPo battery, you will be perfectly fine with a 10A rated ESC. If you haven’t heard about the new BLHeli_S firmware, make sure to check all the new features and the best BLHeli_S ESC at the moment.
Summary: It is a solid build motor for a 150-180mm FPV racer quad, light and you get a lot of power. If you plan to build such mini racer, get your RS1306 motors from GearBest.
